On Friday June 29, the Draper Police Department announced on its Facebook page that Fire Marshal Bryan Thatcher had unexpectedly passed away the night before.

"We are extremely saddened by this tragic event and are left trying to find the words to express our sorrow," read the Facebook post.

The Fire Department post said that Thatcher had over 20 years of experience as a firefighter, and had only become Draper's Fire Marshal in the last year.

"Bryan had a passion for the work he was doing and has worked very hard over the past year to build and establish our own programs within Draper City Fire Department. He was a true professional and loved by his Draper City and Draper City Fire family," read the statement.

Draper City Council Member Mike Green wrote on Facebook, "Our hearts and prayers go out. Draper lost one of its finest last night."

Council Member Tasha Lowery wrote, "Fire Marshal Thatcher’s kindness, honesty, and sense of humor will be greatly missed. We are grateful each day for these brave men and women, and the sacrifices they make to keep our city safe."
