Frequent users of the Deer Ridge trail in Suncrest, or prospective new users, will be happy to find several amenities have been added to that area. Previously, it was a dead-end road with a concrete barrier and a porta-potty. It got a lot of use and the city took note.

“We decided to make it an actual trailhead,” said Rhett Ogden, Parks and Recreation director.

Trail counters helped determine what amenities were needed in the area that is particularly popular with dog owners. Based on the high usage, 44 paved parking stalls, two running water restrooms, and two picnic pavilions are now available for use. The trailhead is a gateway for the off-leash dog area, the Eagle Crest trail, Telegraph trail, and nearby Maple Hollow trail and park.

“It’s got great views of both Salt Lake Valley and Utah Valley and especially of Lone Peak and Mount Timpanogos. Some of the best views in the whole city are from this trailhead or from the trails you can access from this trailhead,” Ogden said. “It really is a gorgeous area.” λ
