The Draper Arts Council announces auditions for its next two productions, to be presented in February and March of 2011.

The first is a melodrama, "Adrift in New York, or Her First False Step." The production will run Feb. 25, 26 and 28 at Draper Historic Theater and will be directed by Sherry Smith. Rehearsals will begin in January.

Auditions will be Dec. 4 at the VF Outlet Mall, 12100 South State Street, from 10 a.m. to noon. Callbacks (as needed) will be scheduled then. Needed are nine adult men and six adult women of various ages. This is not a musical, but it does include several dance hall numbers and olio acts, which will be assigned to cast members or to others as needed. Auditioners should prepare a comic monologue and/or be prepared to read from the script in an outrageously overblown manner and in a loud voice.

For more information see the DAC website at www.draperartscouncil.org or call Sherry Smith at 801-302-0143.

The second audition is for "A Fistful of Family Favorites: A Broadway Musical Revue." It will be held Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon, also at the VF Outlet Mall. This audition is for children 12 and under. Auditions for teenagers and adults will be held Jan. 8. The council expects and encourages a large cast for this show, drawn from all age groups. Auditioners should be prepared to sing an excerpt from a musical or something similar. They should also be prepared to demonstrate dancing ability. Minus tracks are acceptable, and there will be an accompanist.

"A Fistful of Family Favorites" will be directed by Debra Woods and will include numbers from such shows as "Annie," "Oliver!" "Wicked" and "The Music Man." It will run March 25, 26 and 28 at Juan Diego Catholic High School. See the website at www.draperartscouncil.org for more information.
