Ever wonder what happened to the music of George and Ira Gershwin? It is alive and well in Draper, as Juan Diego Catholic High School Performing Arts is proud to present the 1992 Tony Award-winning production, “Crazy For You.” Performances start Nov. 2 at Juan Diego Catholic High School.

The production team of Steve Pay, Shelti Thompson, Brian Manternach and Erika Manternach are together again to bring to the stage the incredible music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin.

“Crazy For You” is the story of Bobby Child, a well-to-do 1930s playboy, whose dream in life is to dance. And despite the serious efforts of his mother and soon-to-be ex-fiancee, Bobby achieves his dream! Memorable Gershwin tunes include “I Can't Be Bothered Now,” “Bidin' My Time,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Naughty Baby,” “They Can't Take That Away from Me,” “But Not for Me,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” “Embraceable You” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.” It's a high-energy comedy that includes mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music. Many of the tap production numbers use the original choreography of award winner Susan Stroman

In 1992 “Crazy For You” was nominated for nine Tony Awards and received awards for Best Choreography, Best Costume Design and Best Musical. In addition, it won Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Choreography and Laurence Olivier awards for Best New Musical, Best Theatre Choreographer and Best Set Designer.

Performances are Nov. 2, 3, 4 and 5. Curtain goes up at 7 p.m. and the cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children and seniors. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the high school beginning Oct. 1 or at the door the night of the performance. Please call the school at 801-984-7650 or visit our website at jdchs.org for more information.
