Summer camps back in session

Last summer looked a little different when it came to sports camps at local high schools. This time around, gyms and fields have opened back up to offer traditional options. Here’s a look at what’s available at Corner Canyon High School and Juan Diego Catholic High School.

Corner Canyon

A boys basketball camp is scheduled in the CCHS basketball gym for fourth through eighth graders June 1-4 from 8 to 9:45 a.m. each day. The $80 registration fee includes a camp shirt. For those in grades nine through 12, the camp will be held June 1-4, 7-8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day. The cost is $120 and also includes a shirt. A girls basketball camp will be held June 21-24 for those in grades four through 12. For fourth through seventh graders, the time each day will be from 8 to 9:50 a.m. and for those in eighth through 12th grade, the camp will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $80 which includes a camp T-shirt. For cross country, a summer camp for those entering grades seven through 12 is being held Mondays through Thursdays from June 1 through Aug. 5 beginning at 7:30 a.m. each morning. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, runners will meet at the north pavilion at Draper Park, located at 12500 S. 1300 East with Thursday trainings being held at Andy Ballard Equestrian Center, located at 1600 E. Highland Dr. The registration cost of $70 includes a short-sleeve athletic shirt. More information can be found at CornerCanyonXC.com.

A one-day football camp will be held at the CCHS football stadium June 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. for those in grades two through eight. The cost is $50 with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m. just prior to the camp. More information can be found at

A “Corner Canyon Free Try Lacrosse Day” is scheduled for interested girls in grades three through 12 on Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the CCHS football field. Contact Mathew Kenning, [email protected] for more information. 

For young boys and girls tennis players, weekly camp sessions are being offered throughout the summer for $60 per session. Each session will be held at the CCHS tennis courts Monday through Thursday, beginning June 1 (excluding the week of July 4) through the end of July. Fridays will be weather makeup days. For those in grades one through four, times will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. each morning with fifth through seventh graders scheduled from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Payment must be received to secure spots with no refunds or transfers given. High quality, professional instruction is being offered for high-level players in eighth through 12th grades in a two-week session format. Session 1 will be June 1-4 and 7-10, session 2 June 14-17 and June 21-24 and session 3 June 28-July 1 and July 12-15. Session 4 is a boys-only camp from July 19-21 and July 26-29. The times will be from 8-9:30 a.m. each morning. These will cost $160 per session. Payment must be received to secure spots with no refunds or transfers given. Volleyball skills camps are scheduled for June 7-10 for players from kindergarten through 12th grade. The K-fourth group, which costs $50, will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Registrations are available at

For those in grades five through eight, the cost is $100 for sessions from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Interested participants can register at https://canyons.revtrak.net/cc-volleyball-grades-5-8th-2021. A ninth- through 12th-grade camp will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for $150. Registrations need to be completed at https://canyons.revtrak.net/cc-volleyball-grades-9-12th-2021-h. Additionally, strength and agility training—led by Jason Gonzalez—is available for high school-aged players for several dates in June and July at 7 a.m. in the CCHS weight room for $125. A wrestling HIT Technique camp will be taught by Arizona State assistant coach Lee Pritts June 7-9 in the CCHS wrestling room for those in sixth through 12th grades. The days will be broken up into technique, drill, conditioning and classroom settings from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m. with a lunch break from 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m. Lunch is not included in the $175 registration fee. Juan Diego

A boys basketball camp is scheduled in the JDCHS main gym for June 14-17 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for those entering fourth through ninth grade. The cost is $80 which includes a camp T-shirt. Registrations are online at www.jdchs.org/camps

Girls basketball players in grades three through eight can attend a camp June 28-30 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for $60. Register online at www.jdchs.org/camps.

A two-day “MAC’s Kids” football camp with former University of Utah coach Ron McBride is slated for the end of June from 6-8 p.m. in the evening at JDCHS. Contact Greg Williams at [email protected] for more information.

A softball clinic will be held June 9 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the JDCHS softball field. The cost is $25. More information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/JuanDiegoSoftball.

For boys and girls tennis players, weekly sessions are being offered at the JDCHS tennis courts beginning June 7 through Aug. 27. The costs vary based on skill level from beginners/futures, intermediate/challenger and advanced/open players with more information available by emailing [email protected]

A volleyball camp is scheduled for June 14-17 in the JDCHS main gym for fourth through 12th graders. Those in grades four through seven will go from 12:30-2:30 p.m. with the eighth- through 12th-grade session being held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. The cost of the camp is $80 which includes a T-shirt. An All-Sports Camp is also being offered in three separate sessions for boys and girls grades K through sixth. Participants will be separated by age and ability in playing and learning two sports each day with instruction, games and special events planned. Session one is scheduled from June 1-4, session two from June 21-25 and session three from July 12-16. Full-day sessions will go from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and will cost $185 for session one and $225 for session two or three. Half-day sessions are also available from either 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 12-3 p.m. and will be $120 for session one and $150 for sessions two or three.
