The Juan Diego Catholic High School girls golf team placed third at the 4A state championships at Meadowbrook Golf Course May 12-13. “I am so proud of my girls,” said head coach Jason Andersen. “The entire team faced their own struggles at multiple times over the two days and were able to show their true character by continuing to grind and compete. The Soaring Eagle squad was led by Grayson Gagnon, who placed seventh, and ninth-place finisher Cabria Walters. “Besides [state champion] Pine View, we were the only other school with two top-10 individuals,” Andersen said. “I think that is a great accomplishment on their part.”

Also competing for JDCHS at state were Shayne Farnsworth (20th), Ashley Cutshall (32nd), Saydia Worrall (53rd) and Jazmin Asmer (63rd). “After watching the other team presented with their championship trophy, my girls came up to me as a team and said they want that experience and are willing to do whatever it takes,” Andersen said. “They are not satisfied and want to win. You can’t teach that determination. I can’t wait to see what the next few years hold for these girls.” (Photos courtesy Jason Andersen)
