Sounds of the Season concert: A family tradition lives on

Draper residents Roy and Dianne Shaw are no strangers to the joy of music. As devoted members of the Seasons Chorale, they’ve shared their love for singing with the community for years. This Christmas, however, the “Sounds of the Season” concert will carry special significance, as multiple generations of their family come together once more to share the stage, continuing a beloved family tradition.

For Kendra Nielson, a high school junior, performing in “Sounds of the Season” is a dream come true. “To be able to perform with the same group, on the same stage, that my grandparents, my siblings, and my mom did for so many years before me is like a dream come true,” she shares. “It makes me happy to connect with my family through this program.”

Kendra is joined by her brother, Kyle, who plays the clarinet, and their grandparents, Roy and Dianne, who add their voices to the choir. Her older sisters, Emily and Laura, previously contributed to the orchestra, playing bassoon and French horn before moving out of state, adding to the family’s legacy of music. Mindie Nielson, who is married to Kendra’s father, Heath, also participates in this musical journey, singing alongside Roy and Dianne.

For the Shaws and Nielsons, “Sounds of the Season” is more than just a concert; it’s a celebration of their family’s enduring bond through music—a tradition that continues to resonate across generations and brings joy to the community each year.
