First election since state began changing vote by mail laws

City Hall served as a Salt Lake County polling place for the primary municipal election required for Draper because more than three candidates filed to fill a two-year term on the city council. Draper resident Cynthia Alex voted in person, though she said she enjoys the convenience of voting by mail and often does. The state of Utah began implementing new laws from the 2025 Legislative session aimed at vote by mail. Unlike years past, mail-in ballots had to be received at the County Clerk’s office by election day, not just postmarked by election day, to be counted. Mail-in ballots were still counted if they were put in one of the county’s secure ballot drop boxes on election day. Draper City Hall has a secure ballot drop box in the south parking lot. Voters submitted ballots using the drop box on election day as well as voting in person inside. (Mimi Darley Dutton/City Journals)
