Mayor Troy Walker signed the Kindness Week Worldwide Proclamation and members of Draper City’s Community Engagement Committee created local initiatives in recognition of the special week set aside to focus on kindness, November 8-15. The city’s Communications Department posted a video of city employees sharing kindness stories, yard signs were posted around the city to encourage people to “Choose Kindness,” and bookmarks with 16 suggestions for simple kindnesses such as “Give dignity to a homeless person by acknowledging them,”
“Thank someone who may not hear it enough” and “Brighten a stranger’s day with a smile and say hello.” Bookmarks were available at Draper Library and City Hall. On Saturday, Nov. 15, Community Engagement Committee members spread out around the city to pass out “Be the Good” cards with ideas for kind actions along with Utah Truffles. “Our goal is to inspire more kindness, not just this week, but throughout the year and for years to come,” said Jenny Haase, committee member. Haase said as they walked away from a father and young son at a playground, she heard the dad say, “They want us to be kind.” “I like to think that this was just one of multiple conversations about kindness that the two will have together,” Haase said.
